Limerick FC handed home draw against first division Cabinteely in the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup

Limerick FC have been drawn at home to first division side Cabinteely in the last 16 of the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup. The draw was made this evening live on Soccer Republic on RTE 2.

Limerick advanced to this stage of the competition following a 2-0 victory over Ulster Senior League side Cockhill Celtic. A second half wonder strike from Killian Brouder followed by an insurance goal from midfielder Barry Maguire ensured the Shannonsiders progressed to this stage for the second year in a row.

Cabinteely joined Limerick in the last 16 after escaping a potential banana skin against accomplished junior side Newmarket Celtic in Frank Healy Park in Clare. Goals from Joe Doyle and Luke Clucas with 15 minutes remaining provided the victory but a late goal from Newmarket’s Eoin Hayes gave the visitors a scare.

The only all premier division clash sees Derry City face St. Patrick’s Athletic. Bohemians travel to Galway United while Dundalk face Finn Harps at Oriel Park. Cork City were handed the most favourable draw as they are at home to non league side Maynooth University Town at Turners Cross. Sligo Rovers, Shamrock Rovers and Bray all exited the competition at the weekend.

The ties are due to take place on the weekend ending August 26. The date of the Limerick game will be announced in due course.
