Limerick FC learn opponents for EA Sports Cup

Limerick FC have been drawn away to beaten finalists Cobh Ramblers in the EA Sports Cup first round. The game will take place at St. Colman’s Park on Monday, March 4th a 7.45.

Last season, Cobh toppled then premier division Limerick 0-1 in the first round at the Markets Field. Tommy Barrett fielded a strong team on the night and the visitors were surprising winners. Both sides are competing in the first division this season and renew a rivalry which was at it’s height in the first decade of the millennium.

Managers Henderson and Barrett know each other well as the Limerick man was part of many Limerick sides who battled with Henderson’s side for promotion.

Both Munster clubs have been finalists of the competitions in the last three seasons. Last year, Cobh were defeated 3-1 by Derry City at the Ryan McBride Brandywell stadium despite equalising in the first half. Limerick led until the last 20 minutes of their final with St. Patrick’s Athletic at the Markets Field in 2016 but the Dubliners superiority told in an eventual 4-1 win.
