Regional United’s appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against their expulsion from this year’s FAI Junior Cup has been postponed until next week. The hearing was due to take place at 9am on Thursday morning but the case has been adjourned.
Regional defeated Sheriff YC in the FAI Junior Cup quarter final in dramatic fashion when coming from 0-2 down to win 3-2 in Dooradoyle with five minutes to go.
However, Sheriff lodged an appeal against the eligibility of Regional playmaker Sosuke Kimura and were successful in front of both the FAI Junior and Senior Councils.
The Dooradoyle club have decided to take the fight to the courts in a bid to be re-instated to the semi-final of the competition where they were due to face fellow Limerick District League side Aisling Annacotty at Jackman Park.
It is alleged that Kimura did not receive the proper international clearance upon his arrival in Ireland three years ago. The midfielder signed for Aisling Annacotty and played with the club for two years
The decision will be made next week and will put an end to a saga which has been ongoing for five weeks.
