WATCH | Goals the difference as Ladies Footballers kick off National League with win over London

Graham Shine’s side were victorious in his first competitive game in charge.

The Limerick Ladies Footballers were made to work for victory as they beat London 2-9 to 0-9 in Martinstown in the opening round of the 2022 National League.

Second half goals from Mairead Kavanagh and Catriona Davis proved the difference against a well drilled London side.

Davis kicked Limerick into an early lead in Martinstown which was 0-3 before the Exiles replied from the impressive Aisleen Cunningham.

Katie Heelan and Davis pushed Limerick further ahead but a strong end to the half had London level as the sides went into the break.

London took the lead on the restart before Kavanagh pounced for the first goal of the game to restore Limerick’s advantage.

An Iris Kenneally score had Limerick three to the good before Davis raised a green flag as the Shannonsiders moved five in front.

Only three more scores followed in the final twenty minutes with Shine’s side keeping their opponents at arms length to secure the six point win on the opening weekend.
