Regional Make it Back to Back Wins Against Janesboro

Regional Unted made it 2 wins in 4 days on Sunday morning as they beat Janesboro 4-1 at Dooradoyle. Coming off the back of the midweek win over Coonagh, Sean Russell had to make changes with the likes of Kieran O’Connell and Jack Arra unavailable. Ruairi Casserly, Ross Fitzgerald and Brian O’Connor started in the midfield in a 3-5-2 formation for the home side. Janesboro manager Shane O’Hanlon called up 2 B team players to sit on the bench for the encounter as he continues to rebuild the side.

It was the visitors who took the lead when Bradley McNamara’s ball over the top sent Karl Turner through on goal and the forward used his pace and brilliantly finished past Rob Shier. Moments later, Pat McDonagh did well to beat his marker and pick out Felip Mostowy at the edge of the area but the winger’s effort was deflected into the grateful arms of Finn Clancy.

The Janesboro team which lost 4-1 to Regional in Dooradoyle

Regional were beginning to assert their dominance in midfield and a through ball by Brian O’Connor was retrieved by Casserly but the creative midfielder saw his effort cleared off the line by recent Janesboro recruit Adrian Healy. On the 25th minute, the home side grabbed the equaliser when McDonagh played a perfectly waited ball to Eoin Duff with the former Fairview man continuing his fine goal scoring run finishing beyond Clancy.

Five minutes later, Regional took the lead with Duff repaying the favour to McDonagh after a neat one-two with the latter tucking the ball into the net. Regional were dominating proceedings at this point and McDonagh almost added to his tally but saw the post deny him.

With five minutes remaining before Ryan McCann blew the half-time whistle, Regional scored a deserved third goal and it was a well worked move involving Casserly and Duff with the striker cutting the ball back for the late run of Casserly and he placed the ball into the net much to the delight of the home support.

The Regional team who defeated Janesboro debuting their new kit

Turner was causing problems to Regional with his pace over the top and a he latched onto a through ball by Eoghan Burke before pulling his right footed effort wide. Both Casserly and McDonagh should have had their second goals of the game but wayward shooting cost the home side. In the final 15 minutes, Mostowy came to life on the left flank and made life really difficult for Dean McNamara and he forced a save from Clancy as he cut in onto his right foot.

To their credit, Janesboro battled manfully in the second half and a driving run from Healy almost ended with a goal for the former Prospect man but he blazed over after being teed up by Turner. As we entered injury time, Casserly doubled his account for the afternoon with a great run from the creative midfielder and he rounded Clancy before tapping into the empty net.

Regional United: Rob Shier, Luke Ryan, Conor Finn, Rhys Foley, Andy Cowpar, Felip Mostowy, Ross Fitzgerald, Brian O’Connor, Ruairi Casserly, Pat McDonagh, Eoin Duff.
