Tommy Barrett’s Treaty managed to reach the semi-final stage last season before losing to eventual winners Derry City
Treaty United have been drawn at home to League of Ireland Premier Division side Cork City in the first round of the Sports Direct FAI Cup. The clash will take place in the Markets Field on July 21, with kick off at 7:45pm.
Tommy Barrett’s Treaty managed to reach the semi-final stage last season, beating Usher Celtic, Maynooth University and UCD on the way, before losing to eventual winners Derry City in the penultimate fixture of the tournament.
Last year, Cork City exited the tournament in just the second round, also losing to Derry City, and will be hoping to go much deeper in the competition this year, coming into the clash with Treaty as heavy favourites.
The Leesiders are ninth in the Premier Division, and are without a win since early June, but given the gulf between the two tiers, they will come into the game with confidence.
The two sides have faced each other a total of nine times in their history, with Treaty winning three and drawing one, while Cork have won on five occassions.
Treaty have enjoyed better form of late, having been on a torrid winless run that spanned five games before the Shannonsiders steadied the ship recently with a win over Athlone, followed by a draw with Bray.
Barrett’s men have just announced the signing of promising defender Jordon Tallon, as they prepare to travel to Mounthawk Park to take on Kerry FC this Friday.
