UL drawn with DCU as Sigerson Cup semi-finals are confirmed

The Limerick college are still seeking a first ever title after being defeated in last year’s final by NUIG.

The University of Limerick will face DCU Dochas Eireann in the Sigerson Cup semi-final next Wednesday it was confirmed yesterday evening.

TU Dublin will meet UCC in the other semi-final on the same night in a Netwatch Cullen Park doubleheader. UL’s clash will kick off proceedings at 6.15pm with the second game billed for 8pm.

The final will be played on Wednesday February 15 at 7.30pm in the WIT Sport Campus.

UL booked their place in the semi-finals for the second successive year on Tuesday night as they avenged the final defeat of 2022 with a win over the University of Galway. Paul Walsh’s second half goal looked like the winning of the game for UL but Galway captain Sean Kelly struck late on to send the game to extra-time.

But scores from Emmet McMahon and Ciaran Downes down the stretch sealed the 1-15 to 2-10 win to dethrone the champions. On the same night, DCU powered past MTU with a nine-point victory. They have been one of the form teams in the competition, beating ATU Donegal 4-15 to 1-7 in the first round before a 3-14 to 0-5 victory against Queens that booked their quarter-final berth.

UCC needed penalties against St Mary’s Belfast last night while TU Dublin, who shocked UL in the second round, continued their perfect season with a one-point win over UCD after extra-time.
